In March 2015, ArcelorMittal Mexico hosted the first edition of its Women’s Empowerment program. A group of 25 talented women participated in the event at Lazaro Cardenas facility in Michoacan.
During this one day training session, the participants benefited from the experience of Luz Maria Valazquez from the Instituto Tecnologico de Monterrey, who led a discussion with the group about their career paths, aspirations and experiences as women working in various functions at ArcelorMittal in Mexico.
The women discussed leadership style and ways in which women can practice more successful leadership.
One participant expressed that, "the program was excellent – exceptional networking". A key highlight was the discussion regarding gender issues. The program is aimed to boost the careers of female colleagues.
The Women’s Empowerment program looks to support emerging female leadership within the company. It is based on specially designed "Strategies for Success" and supports it beneficiaries in developing a better understanding of the importance of image and exposure; acknowledging the importance of networking; and identifying and overcoming obstacles to improve their performance, achieve success, and take control of their careers by strengthening their self-confidence.
