Last year, the Society of Women Engineer launched their first leadership program for women engineers that reside outside the United States. Twenty-one women from twelve countries participated in the inaugural program in 2015 and spread the mission of SWE around the world.
As a group of volunteer leaders, they helped SWE impact the lives of current and future engineers on six continents! Their efforts as Ambassadors allowed young girls in Brazil, India, Japan and Nigeria to experience a day in the life of an engineer. They inspired university students to continue to pursue degrees in engineering throughout Belgium, Canada, India, Turkey and Morocco. They connected professionals in Germany, Japan, Mexico, New Zealand, Nigeria and Costa Rica that might never have had the opportunity to learn about SWE and participate in an event dedicated to women in engineering. They introduced SWE to their employers, their alumni universities and their network of peers. They spread the mission of SWE throughout their community and connected with members across their region and beyond. And for that, we thank our 2015 ambassadors!
In January, the Society welcomed twenty-six women from fifteen countries to serve in the volunteer role as an International Ambassador and SWE cannot wait to see what they accomplish this year! The following women will serve in Ambassador role from January-December 2016: Jennifer Patterson, Belgium; Ana Paula Ribeiro Marimoto, Brazil; Shelly Deitner, Canada; Karen Fong Chan, Canada; Elizabeth Koumpan, Canada; Tugce Tuysuz, Canada; Blanca Rosa Navarro, Costa Rica; Ilektra Marazaki, Denmark; Fabienne Seibold, Germany; Anca Eisele, Germany; Vandana Pandey, India; Princess Zawu, India; Priyanka Tote, India; Stueti Gupta, India; Davida Gondohusodo, Indonesia; Mariela Megozzi, Italy; Naoko Katoh, Japan; Maria Torres Zamudio, Mexico; Maria Aurora Salas Cardenas, Mexico; Kenza Khomsi, Morocco; Vera Egwuatu, Nigeria; Abba Mary Rose Obiageli, Nigeria; Cristina Caballe Fuguet, Spain; Alisa Tijerina, United Kingdom; Jessica Rogers, United Kingdom; Samantha Keating, United Kingdom.
It is because of volunteer leaders that SWE is able to advance its mission day in and day out. Because of the Ambassador program, SWE can proudly state we have leaders around the world that are dedicated to ensuring women reach their full potential as engineers and leaders.
